Are you going to Barcelona and wondering where you’ll find the most beautiful beaches? Today’s post will go over just that for you, as we’ll explore the sandy coasts of the Catalan capital and examine where you can go alone, with your partner, your family or friends.
Beaches in the centre of Barcelona
What beaches are there in Barcelona?
Though the selection of beaches in Barcelona is quite vast, we have selected both the most popular and the ones we consider to be the most stunning for you. We have divided them into three sections, based on their location so that you can choose ones closest to your accommodation of choice: ones below Marina, above Marina and next to Bandalona. In addition, we’ve included one beach not directly in Barcelona but less than 40 minutes of drive away.
Platja de la Barceloneta
The most popular beach in Barcelona
Platja de la Barceloneta is easily the most popular beach in Barcelona. You’ll find lots of sunbathers, tourists and also nudists on this sandy coast. The beach is located in the Barceloneta district, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafés – but beware of scammers roaming the beach trying to sell you drinks at absurd prices.
Platja de San Sebastian
A sandy beach in Barcelona
San Sebastian is located to the south of Barceloneta, and is actually basically an extension of it. It extends all the way to the “W” Barcelona skyscraper. Its end, just below the skyscraper, is rather well protected from the wind and waves, so it’s a great place to take your children.
Somorrostro
Beach in the centre of Barcelona
Somorrostro is the last beach on this side of Barcelona by La Barceloneta. Further down, it’s just the Marina. Here you will find many clubs and restaurants. Remember that the Marina right ahead means that there’ll be boats around, so be careful. .
Platja de la Nova Icària
A great beach for children in Barcelona
This is the beach on the other side of the Marina with access to De la Nova Icaria Park and the La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou. The beach is well protected from the waves by the walls of the Marina, so it’s safer here, even during particularly windy days. Smoking is also prohibited here, so you don’t have to worry about air quality for your children either.
Playa de Bogatell
The most beautiful beach in Barcelona?
This is the second most popular beach in Barcelona – it’s located to the north of Platja de la Nova Icaria. You can find equipment hires here (€30 for a sunlounger with an umbrella), as well as a spot for beach volleyball.
Next to it is the popular Parc del Poblenou.
Platja de la Mar Bella
Beaches in Barcelona
Another beach to the north, this time in Diagonal Mar and el Front Marítim del Poblenou, right next to Playa de Bogatell. This beach has around four places to eat during the high season as well as a separate section for nudists.
Platja de la Nova Mar Bella
Beaches in Barcelona
The further away from the centre, the less crowded the beaches are – this is another beach to the north where you can indulge in sunbathing and more. You can also find three bars and a few restaurants here, so you don’t even need to leave the beach to get lunch.
Llevant
Even more beaches
The last in this section, ergo the one most to the north, is Llevant. You’ll also find Parc Diagonal Mar in this area.
Platja dels Pescadors
Badalona beach
This is a very long sandy beach to the north of the city centre. It connects with Platja de l’Estació, Platja de Badalona to the south and Platja del Pont de la Botifarreta, Platja del Cristall and Platja de la Barca Maria to the north. These beaches combined constitute over two miles, while admittedly not as wide as some of the ones mentioned before. Still, you’ll find plenty of places to eat here, as well as significantly taller waves than in the south.
Sitges, San Sebastian
A beach close to Barcelona
Time for the one beach that we mentioned that isn’t located in the centre of Barcelona. Sitges is a town 23 miles to the south of Barcelona. The beach is located right next to the town centre with a whole boulevard of restaurants, cafés and equipment hire shops. You’ll also have a great view of the local church from the beach.
Nudist beaches in Barcelona
Nude sun lounging in Barcelona
Barcelona has no quarrels with you wanting to lounge nude, so you can easily find nudist spots for yourself. We’d recommend Platja de la Mar Bella or go straight to the most popular beach in the whole of Barcelona, the Barceloneta.
