What’s the weather like in Corfu in summer?

Are you interested in flying to Corfu but you’re not sure what weather to expect? After all, Corfu is not on the side of Greece where Crete and Rhodes lie, so it might have a very different climate from the rest. As such, today we’ll go over what weather and temperatures you can expect from Corfu in summer!

Should you go to Corfu in summer?

Corfu is one of the most beautiful Greek islands and a great spot if you like heat and relaxing by the beach. The main difference between Corfu and the islands on the other side of Greece, like Crete and Rhodes, is that Corfu has a bit more rain and slightly colder nights. In practice, this doesn’t chance that much, especially in summer. You still have some great day temperatures, with 30°C+ daily in July and August, and the rain isn’t that bad. In July, you can also catch the summer dance festival in Corfu. The island also has some of the best beaches in Greece, like the Glyfada Beach.

You can also go right before summer to avoid the main crowds – if you go in early May, for instance, you may catch Greek Easter!

Corfu in May

If you do, what temperatures can you expect? Average day temperatures heat up a lot throughout the month, beginning around 22°C and ending around 24-25°C. The sea is a tad brisk still, around 19°C, so perhaps it’s better to wait for summer. Nights are also a little chilly, around 14°C.

As we’ve said, Corfu is a bit more rainy than the rest of the Greek islands. As such, you can expect about 5 rainy days in May. Days are already long, with 14 hours of daylight a day – 9 of these are sunshine.

Corfu in June

Okay, what about summer, though? June starts us off strong, heating up from the 25°C at the end of May to 30°C average by the end of the month. Nights are still quite chilly, though, at 18°C. That’s just a thing about Corfu, the temperature difference between day and night is a tad bigger. The sea is already plenty warm, though, at 22°C.

As for rain, it’s still present in June, around 3 days a month, so it’s not so bad. You probably don’t need an umbrella or anything, just look out for forecasts around the time of your trip to see whether it’s the unfortunate few. Days are very long, at 15 hours of daylight, 11 of which are of pure sunshine. With temperatures like these, that’s expected.

Corfu in July

July reaches 32°C average, with 39°C being the peak of 2023. Nights sit around 20°C and the sea is wonderfully pleasant at 24°C average. July is perfect for beach enthusiasts, though do keep the colder evenings and nights in mind. Do remember to take plenty of sunscreen and a hat. Rain is still kicking in July, about two days a month.

Corfu in August

Finally, August is pretty much a copycat of July – still around 32°C average during the day, still 20°C at night, the sea sits around 25°C average. The same amount of rain, too, so two days. As you can imagine, July and August are insanely crowded in Corfu, as on every other Greek island too, so, while it’s very pleasantly warm, do keep in mind that most popular beaches will be effective mosh pits. Still, you can always find secluded spots.
