Do palm trees grow in Greece?

Going on holiday is a chance for many people to experience something completely new. For flora lovers from central and northern Europe, this something can be the tropics with palm trees and intense heat. But what if we can find them closer? Does Greece have palm trees? Let’s take a look!

If you’re planning a trip to Greece, you likely know it has some wonderful beaches, very hot temperatures in summer and some friendly neighbourhood sharks in its seas. That sounds like a pretty decent base for a place with palm trees, right?

Damn right, as palm trees do, indeed, grow in Greece. Where will you find them? The most famous spot is near the Preveli Beach on Crete. On the same island, you can also spot them at the Vai Beach, though Crete’s not the only place in Greece with palm trees. Frankly, you can pretty much encounter them anywhere, though they aren’t overtly common. Still, the great hot Mediterranean climate does allow them to thrive in Greece – that something new, much closer than the Caribbeans.
