What weather can you expect in Crete in April?

Crete is one of the most popular Greek islands, visited by waves of tourists every summer. And no wonder, as it’s an incredibly hot area in the high season. What if you’re not that big a fan of extreme heat, though? Perhaps you’d prefer a trip in spring? If so, then today we’ll take a look at what weather you can expect in Crete in April.

April temperatures in Crete

April in Crete can be best described as mildly warm. On average, day temperatures start at around 18°C at the beginning of the month and warm up to 22°C by the end. In 2023, the warmest day in April reached 25°C. At night, it gets quite chilly, down to about 13°C.

As for the sea, we wouldn’t say it’s all that usable just yet. Water temperatures sit at around 16°C, so not great. It does get much warmer in May, up to 19°C, which we’d deem enough for a short dip, so we’d say that’s the earliest you can think of that.

As such, April is far from the tropical heat many may associate with Crete. You may also feel like it’s even colder sometimes when the cool winds come blowing from the coast. As such, it’s certainly a month more suited for those of you who prefer it mild. You may want to pack something extra for the evenings and just in case.
