Sea temperature in Kefalonia in the summer

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands, distinguished by its mountainous terrain, beautiful landscapes and the turquoise sea surrounding its coastline. It neighbours the famous Ithaca and, though stunning, is not really overrun by tourists.

As such, it’s a perfect spot for a break from everything and everyone. If you’re considering such a break in summer, we’ll go over what water temperatures you can expect on Kefalonia’s beaches.

 

Sea temperature in Kefalonia in June

 

Kefalonia is one of those eternal-spring places which just don’t seem to ever go into slumber. Even in winter, it tends to maintain about 15°C of air temperature. As such, you can certainly expect the summers to get very, very hot here. The 30°C mark is commonplace in June already.

As for the sea, water temperatures reach 22°C in June, which is very pleasant already. If you’re not too familiar with tracking sea temperatures, the water off the coast of Edinburgh is about 12°C in the same month.

Kefalonia in July is a paradise for heat lovers. Air temperatures practically never dip below 30°C, you can stroll around in your t-shirt at night with no care in the world and the sea gets even warmer too. In July, water temperatures reach 24°C on average. Trust us, it’s amazing. It gets a tiny, tiny bit warmer in August but you really don’t need more than this.
