Although it’s not the tallest point in the city, you can look at the entire panorama of Seville from its roof. One of the biggest attractions in Seville – the Metropol Parasol. How to get there? How do I explore it, how much do the tickets cost and when does it open? Thankfully, we’ve been there already and can clarify all of it.
Metropol Parasol, known also as Las Setas de Sevilla, basically became one of the symbols of Seville. It’s so unique, so easily distinguishable, that it makes it a must-see for every tourist visiting this magnificent city.
It’s a wooden construction, measured at 150 m x 70 m, 26 metre tall, so it’s quite huge. Supposedly the biggest wooden construction in the world. The shape of this object is obviously, the most unique aspect, which can be compared to the shape of a mushroom. Although, the locals were initially sceptical about the whole project, nowadays it’s hard to imagine Seville without it. Jurgen Mayer, a German architect, was the creator of this attraction, which he finished in 2011.
Las Setas de la Encarnación consists of 6 umbrellas, which were inspired by the vault of the Catedral de Santa Maria de la Sede (The Seville Cathedral), and fig trees. The whole construction has 4 levels. The lowest holds a museum with Mauri and Roman exhibits. The street level is where both the tourists and the locals can hide in the shade for some time. There are also various shows and public events taking place on the lowest level. The 2nd and the 3rd levels are the huge terraces which offer us an incredible view of the city. The panorama of Seville is quite incredible, both during the day and the night. We’re sure you’ll be impressed, if you decide to pay the viewpoint a visit.
How much do the tickets cost?
How much do the tickets cost? Entry to the higher levels of Las Setas De Sevilla is paid and it costs 3 EUR. The locals and children under the age of 5 can enter for free. You can buy the tickets in the ticket booth, located on the lowest level. The queue times can be extremely long, so patience is required. There’s also a restaurant on the higher levels (fairly pricey) and free toilets. The terraces are accessible through a lift, so anyone can enter (there’s plenty of space, the little passages are wide and comfy).
Opening hours
Las Setas De Sevilla is open all week, from Sunday to Thursday, from 9:30 to 23:00, and from Friday to Saturday – 9:30 till 23:30. Metropol Parasol is also open during holidays, but there may be some changes in the schedule, so check the official website, just in case.
