Can you pay using euros in Prague?

Prague is one of the most beautiful European cities, visited by millions of foreign tourists every year. If you’d like to join the train, what currency are you going to have to use? Czechia is, after all, in the European Union, so can you use the euro in Prague? Let’s take a look!

Can you use euros in Prague?

Though, yes, the Czech Republic is a part of the EU, it’s not a part of the eurozone – as such, the official currency of Czechia is not euro but its own Czech korunas (crowns). Locals don’t use euros and you won’t find anyone in non-touristy areas even entertaining the idea. But can you pay using euros anywhere else?

Sort of, yes. If you’re planning on visiting larger tourist services, you can find vendors who will accept euros. Thing is, that the exchange rates will likely be very unfavourable and you’ll likely receive change in Czech crowns, so even more cost inefficiency here.

As such, you sort of can but you certainly should not. Better stock up on crowns if you’re travelling to Prague or use a multi-currency card. Do keep in mind that in the rural areas of Czechia you may not find people who accept card payments and so korunas are the only option for them.
