Guide to Vyšehrad in Prague

Prague is one of the tourist pearls of Europe and a place with not just one magnificent castle but two. Today, we’ll take a very brief look at ‘the second one’, including the basics, its opening hours and tickets. Vyšehrad is a must-see for any lover of all things medieval!

Vyšehrad

Vyšehrad is a castle in Prague, the former seat of Czech rulers, located right by the Vltava River. It was built around the 10th century, though the exact date is unknown. Today, it offers a beautiful park area, a cemetery with lots of notable Czechs and the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul. Of course, the fortifications themselves are an attraction in and of itself.

Tickets and opening hours

Admission to Vyšehrad and many of its contents are actually free. The tickets you may actually want to acquire would be for tours. You can find them here and here. Though these may seem like they focus predominantly on the casemates, they’ll give you a general rundown on the history of the castle and the various hidden details of the entire area. They also include the cemetery.

As for opening hours, the site is open every day, from 10am to 6pm all throughout the year. Easy as that. You can also find an information centre on site in case of any doubt.
