11 most stunning beaches in Rhodes

Apart from being one of the most beautiful Greek islands, Rhodes also has some of the best beaches in this part of the Aegean Sea. Today, we’ll go over a couple of our favourites, both for solo holidays and for families. Let’s take a look at what Rhodes has to offer.

  • Rhodes is the largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands and it’s famous for its historical heritage; mainly, that it used to house one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (the Colossus of Rhodes)
  • If you’re predominantly interested in beaches for your holidays, the east of Rhodes has most of them
  • From our experience, most of the popular beaches on this list tend to be overcrowded in the high season, so either go in the low season or chose the less popular ones (such as the west coast)
  • On average, the price for two sun loungers and an umbrella is between €10-20 on Rhodes
  • Beaches on Rhodes are also ideal for water sports in summer, partially thanks to the Meltemi wind

Prasonisi Beach

prasonisi

Prasonisi is a small island at the southernmost tip of Rhodes connected by a small strip of sandy land. It’s a popular spot for both traditional beach enthusiasts and kite surfers. There’s a restaurant, a shop and a car park (the best way to get to it is via a car). It’s a great peaceful spot for relaxation.

Traganou Beach

traganou

Traganou beach is located near the village of Faliraki, on the eastern side of the island. It’s a beautiful long beach hidden behind a cliff with wondrous azure water. There’s an equipment rental, a car park and a taverna. At the end of the beach, under the cliff, you’ll find a cute little cave!

Pefkos Beach

pefkos

Another beach on the eastern side of the island, located in Pefkos under beautiful hills. You’ll find all you could need there: sun loungers, umbrellas, restaurants and cafes. The proximity of the town is certainly a plus here – sadly, this also means that it tends to be crowded. It’s one of our personal favourites on the island!

Lindos Beach

lindos

Lindos beach is located next to St Paul’s Bay. Thanks to its gentle descent into the sea, it’s a perfect beach for families with children. The scenery here is magnificent thanks to the surrounding green rocky hills. If you want to climb one of these, you’ll also get an incredible view of the whole area.

Anthony Quinn Bay

This beautiful bay is located on the eastern side of the island. It’s a mix of rocks and pebbles with calm waters, ideal for snorkelling. Of course, you’ll also find sun loungers, umbrellas and… trees, actually, which cast some shade. Sadly, the beach is not large and so its usually very crowded.

St Paul’s Bay

St Paul’s Bay is located close to the city of Rhodes. It’s, again, a mix of gravel and sand. You can find sun loungers sets, a cafe and a car park here. The last one tends to be full as there are many popular beaches in this area. Thankfully, you can get here using public transport.

Tsambika Beach

tsambika

Tsambika is a long and sandy beach with shallow calm waters, so it’s suitable for families with children. It’s snuggled between two hills – you can also climb one of them to get some incredible views. There are a few tavernas and cafes by the beach.

Faliraki Beach

faliraki

Another beach close to Rhodes, about 6 miles, on the north-eastern part of the island. Faliraki beach is a long beach, though it still manages to be crowded most of the time. If you’re looking for a peaceful secluded beach, no chance of that here. The plus is that you can easily access the beach, either by car or public transport. It has all the infrastructure you could possibly want from a beach. It even has a section for nudists.

Agathi Beach

agathi

This is one of the prettiest beaches on Rhodes. Its waters are shallow and calm, so it’s suitable for families. The infrastructure is also plentiful and parking ample. Nearby, you’ll find a small cave which actually hides a mini-church! You can enter it, though, obviously, not in swimwear.

Glystra Beach

glystra

Glystra is a sandy beach set on the south-eastern part of the island. You’ll have to get here by car, as it’s a pretty remote place. This means, however, that it tends to be much more peaceful. Nearby, you can also find the Katafigio Agrias Zois Xortis nearby, a beautiful park.

Ixia Beach

ixia

This one is only 3 miles away from the city of Rhodes, so it’s a very popular destination for tourists. Parts of the beach are gravelly, though it’s still a great beach overall. You’ll find plenty of good restaurants along it too!

Brief reminder

One thing which we can remind you of is that you should be on the lookout for signs on certain beaches either informing you that this is a no-swimming zone or that there are no lifeguards around. It’s especially important when the Meltemi wind picks up. Important signs are also usually in English.

Do also remember that the heat on the Greek islands in summer is also no joke and it can be genuinely dangerous.

Nudist beaches in Rhodes

In Rhodes, same as in Crete, you’ll find nudist beaches or at least special sections. Going topless on a beach in Greece is not much of a taboo – if you want to go completely nude, it’s preferable to keep it to nudist-sections only. One example is the aforementioned Faliraki beach, there you can totally go full-nude. You can also find sections on the Tsambika Beach, Mandomata, Kalathos and Paralia Agiou Georgiou.
