The Longest Footbridge in the World (Sky Bridge 721 in Czechia)

When thinking of the Czech Republic, you likely don’t think of massive bridges hanging in the sky. And yet, in the Dolní Morava municipality, hangs the longest footbridge in the world. It’s a very young tourist attraction, opened in May of 2022. Today, we’ll go over all you’ll need to know: what it is and how much it costs to walk it yourself.

Sky Bridge 721

The Sky Bridge 721 takes the numerical part of its name from its length – it’s 721 metres long. It hangs at the height of about a hundred metres above the ground and over 1,100 metres above sea le_vel, connecting two mountain ridges. You can also find another ‘sky’ attraction in Dolní Morava – the Sky Walk, a large spiralling platform 55 metres tall, offering you some incredible views of the mountain valleys below. The resort also offers chair lifts for getting up and down from the mountain – you can also take a bobsleigh track down. It’s also primarily a ski resort, in spite of all the other services that they offer. You can see the whole offer on the official website of the resort here

As for the bridge, it sure sounds like a very intimidating thing, but don’t worry – the construction can support up to 360 tonnes of tractive force, so there’s now way we can even remotely overload it. It’s quite narrow, at 1.2 metres wide, but it’s actually enough to pass by a person. Be warned that it’s not wheelchair accessible nor does it allow for dogs to pass.

How do you get to the bridge? You can either use a chairlift which takes you up there right away or walk a 2 mile long path, so roughly a 90-minute walk. Be warned that the slope is not available during winter, as it’s reserved for skiers. As such, you’ll have to take the chairlift. Also, the bridge is two-way only in winter.

Tickets for the Sky Bridge

As for tickets, it may seem like there are a couple of options, though, in reality, you basically have two simple questions: do you want a chairlift up or not and how do you get down? You can either buy an admission ticket to the bridge alone if you want to walk the path yourself – this will cost you 440 Czech Korunas (£15). Alternatively, you can:

  • pay 685 crowns (£24) for admission + chairlift up
  • 890 crowns (£30) for admission and chairlift down (or you can take the wild coaster down!)
  • the full package for 1220 crowns (£42) if you want a chairlift up, admission and either a chairlift or a coaster to get down

You can find all the information about the tickets on the official website of the resort here. You’ll need to book a specific date to access the bridge.

We found a full POV recording of the coaster ride down on the YouTube channel coasters.couple (check them out, they’re a dedicated lot). Here it is if you’re curious
