What’s the weather like in Zakynthos in summer?

The holiday season is slowly approaching and, with it, the dilemma: where to go? There are so many wonderful destinations, after all. If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be able to just lounge on a beach all day in pleasant heat, Greek islands are always a great option. Today, we’ll take a look at what temperatures you can expect in Zakynthos in summer.

Should you fly to Zakynthos in summer?

Zakynthos is located in the Ionian Sea, west of the Peloponnese and south of Kefalonia. It’s, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful Greek islands. It’s the third largest island in the Ionian archipelago. Zante, as locals like to call it, has a whopping 405 km2. There aren’t many monuments on the island, though you’ll find plenty of enchanting bays, lovely caves, beaches and olive groves.

Zakynthos has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, so expect mild rainy winters and, as the name suggests, dry hot summers. The tourist season on Zakynthos lasts from about June and lasts until October. Most tourists come in July and August.

Zakynthos weather in May

If you’d like to come to Zakynthos right before the peak season, we’ll also look at May today. Though it’s by no means as warm as summer will be, it’s already presenting us with 24°C during the day on average. Nights are a bit chilly, at about 14°C, so it’s certainly not warm enough yet for doomer walks. Water is also close but not quite yet there – 19°C average.

As such, it’s a mildly warm month, though needing just a bit more of a push on all fronts to get truly good. Thankfully, there’s very little rain, about three days worth of it, so you don’t need to worry about an umbrella. Days are also very long already, at 14 hours of daylight.

Zakynthos weather in June

June is the proper start of the season, though the tourists don’t typically flock here until July. You can already count on 28°C during the day on average, with common jumps to 30°C near the end of the month, and 18°C during the night. The sea is also very pleasant, at 22°C.

There’s even less rain, two days maximum, and days are even longer, at 15 hours of daylight. June is, in our opinion, a fantastic month for a trip – tourists aren’t all that plentiful yet, weather is already fantastic and not too overwhelming either.

Zakynthos weather in July

July is when things get real. Don’t expect the thermometers to ever go below 30°C during the day this month, and, in 2023, they’ve even reached 40°C. At nights, a pleasant 21°C average. The sea is also plenty warm, at 24°C.

The trend continues – even less rain, perhaps a day a month. This is an ideal month for pretty much everything beach-holiday oriented – be it relaxing, water sports, boat cruises and the like. At the same time, this is when things get very crowded – if you’re craving crazy parties, perhaps that’s a plus for you. If you’d like a little bit of tranquility, then we’d argue that June is a bit better.

Zakynthos weather in August

August is pretty much a copypaste of July – day and night temperatures stay exactly the same, the sea warms up a little over the course of such a heated month. No rain, long days full of sunshine. Lots and lots of people. August and July are pretty much the same month so the same applies – come here if you love heat and you don’t mind having to fight for spots on the beach.
