Are there sharks in Antalya?

Antalya is a Turkish city located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, which is characterised by vast biodiversity. Yes, you’ll find sharks among the local residents too. In fact, there are a few dozens of shark species living off Turkey’s coast. But don’t worry, as the risk of an encounter with one of them is incredibly low. The majority of sharks in Turkey live on the high seas and very rarely come close to shores.

Let’s conclude – are there sharks in Antalya? Yes, plenty even. However, contact with them is unlikely… unless, during your holidays, you decide to visit Antalya Aquarium, as you can see many species of these marine predators there.

Shark attacks in Antalya – have they happened in the past?

We already know if there are sharks in Antalya. As we wrote earlier, encounters between humans and these predators have only occurred in the oceanarium in recent years. However, has this always been the case?

Yes. This isn’t a lead-up to some reveal of a gorey past, shark attacks in Antalya have never happened. The International Shark Attack File website documenting shark attacks on humans around the world has not recorded a single such incident in this Turkish city. Information on this subject is also searched in vain in official government statistics. Going on holiday to Antalya, therefore, you need not fear sharks. Even though they’re always there.
