Though Christmas markets in Italy are mainly associated with the north, you can still find some beautiful ones in the south – including Naples. When does the Christmas Market in Naples start? Where will you find it? All of that today.
There are actually quite a few Christmas Fairs in Naples, like the Santa Claus Magic Park or the markets in the Vomero neighbourhood. Today, we’ll take a look at the two main ones: the fair at Via San Gregorio Armeno (the Christmas Alley) and the annual Christmas Market event in the National Railway Museum.
The Christmas Alley is a small street in Naples, about 200 metres long, though it’s one of the more famous parts of Naples. It’s a street filled with nativity scenes and their incredible craftsmen selling adorable little figurines which you can use in your own nativity scene. The shops are actually open all year round, though it just feels right to visit this place during Christmas. There’s no entry fee to the Christmas Fair.
As for the actual Christmas Market, there’s an event hosted at the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa – the museum area puts up their little decorated wooden houses with gifts of all kinds and offers various attractions suitable for all ages. Simultaneously, you still have the backdrop of the Railway Museum – the vintage wagons only add to the atmosphere. You can find more information on the official site of the event here.
When do the Christmas Markets open in Naples?
As for the dates, the Christmas Market at the National Railway Museum lasts from December 2nd to January 7th of 2024. Market opens at 10:00am daily and closes at 10pm (the museum itself and the food area closes at 10:30pm). There are a few days when the market will be closed: 4th, 11th, 24th, 25th and 31st of December and 1st and 2nd of January. On December 21th, the market will open, unusually, at 5pm.
As for the Christmas Fair at Via San Gregorio Armeno, the alley itself is open all year round, though the formal ‘fair’ begins at the beginning of December and lasts until Epiphany.
Tickets for the Christmas Market
Though the Christmas Alley is free to visit, the Christmas Market at the National Railway Museum actually requires you to purchase a ticket. It’s a whole event. There are two prices: if you’re buying a ticket for Monday-Friday, it costs €8 for a full-price (13 years old and up) or €6 for a reduced ticket (3-12 years old). As for Saturday, Sunday and holidays, the full price goes up to €12. Children below three years old can enter for free.
There’s also a special deal for families on weekdays – two adults plus two children (from 3-12) for €24.
