Guide to airports in Cyprus

If you’re planning a trip across Cyprus, it would be sensible to know your way around its airports. As such, we’ll go over airports in both southern and northern Cyprus for you today.

What airports does Cyprus have?

There are a couple of civilian airports currently in use in Cyprus (as well as a few that are no longer in operation). Where are the airports in Cyprus located? We’ll go over the whole list, broken down into southern and northern Cyprus respectively.

Airports in southern Cyprus

You’ll find two functioning airports in southern Cyprus:

Larnaca International Airport (LCA)

This is the main airport in the eastern part of the island, and also currently the largest airport in Cyprus. It’s located very close to the city centre. You’ll find many airlines which offer direct flights to Larnaca, including the British Airways and Gatwick. You’ll also find package flights from Blue Air, WizzAir, easyJet and others.

One runway with a length of 3,000 metres.

Paphos Airport (PFO)

This is the main airport in the western part of the island. It’s located near Paphos, to the south of the city centre. You can get here by taxi or bus. Similarly, you’ve got plenty of airlines to choose from.

One runway with a length of 2,699 metres.

Airports in Northern Cyprus

Is there an airport in northern Cyprus? Yes, admittedly only one and it serves one country – but it is still active.

Ercan Airport (ECN) in Northern Cyprus

This is the only civilian airport used in northern Cyprus. Used is a bit ambitious of a word, as the only flights that officially arrive here are from Turkey. The airlines flying here are: Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Fly Kibris, SunExpress and AndaloluJet.

One runway with a length of 2,755 metres.

Buffer zone

Nicosia ghost airport

This is the most interesting ‘airport’ (if we can still call it that) on the island. It was once the largest main airport of the island, now it’s a barren wasteland of a place. That’s because of the Turkish invasion of 1974, as the airport is in the effective buffer zone between northern and southern Cyprus. It’s possible that it may one day be rebuilt and renovated, but there are currently no plans for that. The airport is currently used as the headquarters of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.

Two runways: 2,707m and 1,825m
