Guide to the airport in Berlin

If you’d like to travel to Germany, it’s likely you’re going to need a plane. If Berlin is your destination of choice, then you may like to know about your airport options on site. Does Berlin have its own airport? How can you get from it to the city? Let’s take a look.

Berlin Airport

Being the capital of Germany and a massive city, Berlin does have its own airport, just 11 miles south-east of the city. It’s the Berlin Brandenburg Airport “Willy Brandt” (AITA: BER). Though Berlin was previously operated by the airports in Tempelhof, Schönefeld and Tegel, The BER is the current operator of the capital, since 2020. You can find more information on the official website of the airport, here

The airport is located in Schönefeld, on the A113 motorway. As for getting from there to the city, you have many options at your disposal. Firstly, the airport is connected with Berlin via trains and buses. You can find the railway station in Terminal 1 on level U2, with common commuter trains running every 20 minutes and additional intercity trains several times a day. There’s also a bus station with express buses travelling regularly from airport to city too.

Alternatively, you can also take a taxi or hire your own car. There are taxi stands right in front of the terminal, on level E0 and on level E1. There are also various car rental providers on site if you’d like to visit areas around Berlin too.
