How to get from the Corfu Airport to the city centre?

The Corfu International Airport (CFU) is the only airport on the island. It’s also referred to as the Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport, as tribute to (you guessed it) Ioannis Kapidistrias, the first governor of Greece. If you’d like to fly to Corfu, we’ll help you figure out how you can get from the airport to the city. What options do you have? Let’s take a look.

How to get around the airport?

CFU has only one terminal, so it gets very busy during the peak season. There’s an information centre, a restaurant and 4 bars, an exchange office, ATMs, two shops (including one duty-free) and a lost-and-found office. You can check our shopping guide for Corfu if you’re not sure what you’d like to buy yet. One final note is that the runway here is actually located on an artificially raised causeway and creates an incredible impression when landing or taking off, like you’re emerging from the Ionian Sea or descending straight into it.

How to get from the airport to the centre of Corfu?

The airport is located about two miles away from the city centre. Like the city of Corfu, it’s also located by the sea. You can get to the city in three ways: public transport, taxi or a hired car.

Bus

The route between the airport and the port of Corfu is served by line 15. The bus takes you straight to the city centre, to Saroko Square. You can find the starting point for most bus lines right there too. You can also stay in the bus to get to the harbour, where you can find boats sailing to Albania.

The bus stop is located to the right of the airport exit. A ticket costs €1.20 and can be purchased at the ticket office (while, if buying from the driver, you may pay €1.60). The ride takes about 10 minutes. You can find the current schedule here

Taxi

Corfu taxis are usually navy blue in colour. They also have a distinctive taxi sign on the roof, so you’ll likely spot them from afar. Taxis typically wait right in front of the terminal exit. The journey takes the same amount of time as the bus, so about 10 minutes. During the day, the fare is about €15; at night, it tends to be about €20.

Car hire

There are several car rental companies at the airport, including Avis Budget, Sixt, Enterprise and Hertz Thrifty. Given that Greek driving culture is a bit more chaotic than ours at times, we recommend buying insurance. Also, check the car for scratches and dents carefully before signing the contract! Otherwise, the company may propose that scratches present prior were your doing.

How do I get from the airport to other cities on Corfu?

If your destination is actually another town or city, you’ll have to get to the ‘Green Buses’ bus station – either take a 20 minute walk or use the line 15 bus. From the station, buses depart for pretty much all tourist destinations of Corfu, including the northern (Sidari, Roda, Acharavi, Ag. Georgios), central (e.g. Glyfada, Paleokastritsa) and southern (Kavos, Moraitika, Mesoggi, Ag. Georgios Argyradon, etc.) parts.
