The centres of most towns in Cyprus are small and convenient for exploration – you can travel through all the main tourist attractions on foot. Check out what you can find to the east, in Paphos, and to the west, in Larnaca and Famagusta.

Refreshing drinks, cordials and liqueurs

How about some pomegranate juice?

Thankfully, though it is scorching hot, Cyprus is also a place where excellent refreshing drinks are made from citrus, bananas and other fresh fruits. Among the exceptional drinks, we’d include:

  • a cordial, which is a rose-flavoured liqueur mixed with cold milk
  • Cypriot citrus lemonade
  • our favourite, Cypriot coffee (or Turkish coffee, as they’d call it in the north)

Prices aren’t too terrible in the high season

And all beaches in Cyprus are free!

Cyprus is a relatively cheap destination compared to the luxury Greek islands or the resorts of the Côte d’Azur or Portofino. The larger resorts are easily accessible from the cheaper towns and it is cheap to get around the island itself by car – with air conditioning on, of course.

Climate in Cyprus – does it rain?

Banana trees are an everyday occurrence in Cyprus

Cyprus is a part of Asia and a place very close to Africa. As such, the appearance of Cyprus is often reminiscent of distant coastal paradises, with blue lagoons, banana farms, waterfalls and beautiful cliffs overgrowing with wild vegetation. Mix this with Byzantine and Ottoman history and you get a very unique place.
