Guide to the Dresden Airport

Dresden is a beautiful German city with a rich history and millions of visiting tourists every year. If you’d like to join the crowds, you may want to know what airport options you have at your disposal. Today, we’ll go over exactly that. Does Dresden have its own airport? How to get from there to the city? Let’s have a look!

Dresden Airport

As befits a city of such scale and importance, Dresden has its own airport, aptly referred to as the ‘Dresden Airport’ (IATA: DRS). It was formerly known as Flughafen Dresden-Klotzsche in German; the current name does roll off the tongue a tad better. It’s located 5.6 miles from the city centre, in Klotzsche. The airport’s actually very old, unlike the current Berlin Airport, as it has been operating in some form since 1935. You can find the official website of the airport here

Getting to Dresden

You can opt for trains, buses, taxis or a car rental. The train station is located below the terminal, a suburban line. Trains leave every 30 minutes or so and the journey takes about 20 minutes. As for the bus, buses 77 and 80 have a stop right in front of the terminal and can take you to the main station

Alternatively, you can also take the convenient taxis standing right outside the entrance to the terminal building. There are also car rental companies on site available if you’d like to travel around the area too.
