Germany is not really well known as a seaside holiday destination, even though it has access to two seas. Why is that? Are there beaches in Germany? Let’s take a look!
The seaside in Germany
Germany’s northern coast is, well… a coast. It has access to the sea – two, even. Both the North Sea on the western side and the Baltic Sea on the eastern side. The coastline is over a thousand miles long! As such, that’s plenty of opportunities for fishing, sailing, swimming and lounging on a beach.
Beaches in Germany
Germany has loads of beaches, even if you may not have heard of any of them prior. Practically all beaches in Germany have their own unique sunloungers – the so-called Strandkorbs, literally translating to a beach basket. You can find plenty of long sandy stretches all across the northern coastline, from Heringsdorf all the way up to Karlshagen. There are also little islands which you can visit for their beaches, like Juist, Sylt or Amrum. We also recommend:
- Binz Beach (Rügen)
- Wannsee Beach (lake beach in Berlin)
- Warnemünde Beach (Rostock)
- Lubmin beach (a nudist beach in Greifswald)
