If you’re going to a new unknown place, trusting your Uber driver is usually easier than learning to navigate the city from scratch. As such, you may be wondering whether Uber works in Naples. Let’s take a look!
To cut to the chase, Uber sort of exists in Naples. We say sort of because, if you try to use the app, you’ll likely have your requests routed via a service called ItTaxi – this is because Naples uses Uber Taxi, meaning calling a traditional taxi with the advantages of an Uber.
Still, this service is very wonky, doesn’t work most of the time, and you’d be better off either downloading the ItTaxi app yourself or using the GoxGo app (the official app for taxis in Naples).
Uber is not really something that has entered Italian culture, mostly because Italy regulates the taxi services very strictly. As such, Uber can only get away with offering ‘luxury services’, like their Uber Black, like it does in other cities. In reality, the locals don’t really use it much and they either call for a taxi, use the taxis available on stations or just use public transport. You’ll have to get your savoir-faire up quick, basically.
