How to get from the Naples Airport to the city centre?

Though Naples doesn’t have the greatest reputation as a city, it’s still very widely chosen by tourists. If you want to see Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius or anything in the general area, your best bet would be to fly to the Naples Airport. It’s very close to the centre of the city, so getting around should be no problem. What options do you have at the airport? How much do tickets cost? We’ll cover that today.

How to get from Naples airport to the city centre?

The Naples airport-centre connection is very good and there are several options available to us. Sadly, there’s no metro connected to the airport, so that’s not an option. Firstly, we have the Alibus – a dedicated shuttle bus which picks you up at the terminal and takes you to the central station. The journey takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic. It runs from 6 am to 11:20 pm. A ticket costs €5 and it goes through the Central Station to Stazione Marittima. You can find more information here

You can also take a 10-minute walk to the stop on Via Maddalena and take the city bus 182, which goes to Piazza Dante. The bus is usually much less crowded, so it should be possible to get a seat, though traffic jams during rush hour can extend the journey time a lot. City buses typically run from around 5 am to 11 pm.

The most convenient option is to take a taxi. With a couple of people, the price will come out similar to driving an Alibus except that the journey will definitely be more comfortable. If you’re travelling solo, it’ll naturally be more expensive.

How much does transport from the Naples Airport to the centre cost?

As we’ve mentioned, the Alibus costs €5 and the ticket is valid for 90 minutes (though it’s only usable for a single ride). Tickets for the city buses (called TIC tickets) start from €1.50 for a single 90-minute ticket. These can be bought at any tabaccheria, kiosks or at one of the many ticket machines. You have to validate them when entering the bus.

Taxis have a fixed fare, meaning from €16 to €20, depending on whether you’re travelling to the centre or a bit further. There may be additional costs for transporting pets, taking a ride during late hours or travelling during public holidays. Do settle on a price before taking the ride so as not to get scammed.

Naples is a fantastic base for many destinations, so it’s well worth it to come here. We know that you may have heard that Naples is a black sheep among Italian cities and it’s certainly not as pristine and clean as many others, but that’s also a charm in and of itself. It’s more real and raw this way, not a pocket paradise that you can fall asleep in for a week and return to the grey reality. And, really, there’s plenty of beauty in the city, just not with the rest of the world filtered out.
