If you don’t feel like dice rolling every time you enter a beach on whether you’ll find a free spot or whether queues in Lisbon or Porto will steal half an hour of your precious holiday time, then there’s a very simple solution. Just fly to Portugal in spring! The swarms of tourists are nowhere to be found in March, April and May. Additionally, temperatures are already pleasant enough for both exploring the country and spending days on Portuguese beaches.

If you’re wondering when would be the best time for taking photos in Portugal, we’d say, without a doubt, that you’re looking for spring. It’s beautiful greenery is accompanied by a whole array of colours from blooming flowers. Though, admittedly, this only concerns mainland Portugal, as Madeira is a land of eternal spring.

Spring weather in Portugal

Of course, the weather varies a bit from region to region, but we’ll exclude the Azores and Madeira from our list here, as these have all-year-long spring at home. Still, don’t worry, as mainland Portugal isn’t far behind. Temperatures range from 16 to 22 degrees Celsius on average. And it doesn’t rain much, so it’s a nice change of pace from our post-winter wetlands.

What is the weather like in March in Portugal? Quite warm already, as it ranges from 16 to 19 degrees Celsius. At night, thermometers will show around 10 degrees, so still very chilly. Thankfully, not much rain.

Take a jacket with you for the brisk evenings 🙂

April will already get quite a bit warmer and stabler when it comes to temperatures. You can expect around 20 degrees Celsius throughout the whole month. Rain, once more, will be very scarce and sunshine will accompany you almost the whole month.

This is, as expected, the warmest spring month. You’ll already see 22 degrees Celsius here. Nights still remain a bit cold, with around 13-14 degrees Celsius, so do pack your jackets still. May is quite a perfect month for any type of endeavour in Portugal.
