What Electrical Sockets in Spain. Travel Adaptor for Spain 2021

What’s the standard when it comes to power socket types in Spain? Will the poor type G suffice, or will you need to get an adapter? We’ve got some bad news.

What’s the standard for power sockets in Spain?

Not all European countries use the same socket type. Spain, for instance, uses the F (+C) type, fit for the vast majority of countries, like Germany, Finland, Greece, Norway, Russia, Sweden and even Turkey. Unfortunately, the UK does not (especially now) belong to the majority and uses the dreaded type G, so an adapter is a must for Spain. Same goes for Portugal.

How about a voltage converter?

It is, thankfully, absolutely unnecessary. Spain uses the golden standard of 230 V 50 Hz, meaning, with a plug adapter, all of our devices will work just fine.

Ceuta, Melilla, Gibraltar – socket standards

In the vast majority of places in Spain, you will find the type F, as we’ve mentioned. That does apply to Ceuta and Melilla. However, there is one ally we have there – our blessed Gibraltar, which does use type G. In case your trip only includes Gibraltar, you’re safe to go adapter-free.
