How to get from the Samos Airport to the city centre?

The island of Samos has only one airport, and so you don’t have much of a choice if you’d like to visit it. Today, we’ll cover your options for how to get from the Samos airport to the city of Samos so you don’t have to fretfully improvise on the spot.

Introduction

For starters, the Samos International Airport (SMI) is also known as Aristarchos, a tribute to Aristarchos of Samos, an ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician from the 3-4th centuries BC. The airport offers most of the services you would expect and need: a restaurant, a cafe, a duty-free shop, free wi-fi, charging stations, ATMS, a first-aid spot and a lost & found office. For more information of any kind, you can visit the official website of Samos Airport.

How to get from the airport to the city centre?

The city of Samos is located about 10 miles from the airport, so you’ll need some form of transport. The options are relatively limited: you can either use the public bus, a taxi or hire your own car.

For buses, there’s a public bus stop right in front of the terminal. You can find the timetable for it here. You can buy a ticket directly from the driver and the journey takes less than half an hour.

There’s also a taxi service available outside the terminal building. This is the most convenient way, though also the priciest. Do be mindful to set the price of the journey before departing, just in case the driver may want to scam you. There’s sadly no Uber in Samos.

Finally, you have the option of renting a car. There are three companies offering services at the airport: Avis Budget, Enterprise and Hertz Thrifty. Their offices are all located in Arrivals. Hiring a car is a great way to gain leeway and be able to actually see most of this lovely island.
