The Santorini International Airport (JTR) is a small airport capable of handling a maximum of nine civilian aircrafts at once. It’s located less than four miles away from the capital of the Island, Fira. Yes, the town is Fira, the island is Thira and it’s referred to as Santorini because it would be too easy if we didn’t spice it up a bit. The airport also serves as a military airport at the same time.

You’ll find a couple of shops, restaurants and cafes at the airport. There are also three ATMs, a currency exchange booth, a car rental, charging stations and free wi-fi. For any additional information, you can check the official website of the airport.

Getting from the airport to Fira

You can get to Fira via three traditional ways: a bus, a taxi or a hired car. For buses, you can find the timetable here – the bus stop is at the airport, by the departures. As for tickets, you can buy them directly from the driver.

For more convenience, you can also take a taxi. The taxi stand is right in front of the departures building. It’ll cost you around €15-20 for the trip. Remember to agree on the price before you depart so as to not get scammed. The journey via either a bus or a taxi will take you about 15 minutes.

Finally, you can also hire a car. There are five rental companies operating at the Santorini airport: you can find them all here. A car is most convenient for exploring the island, we highly recommend it if you don’t mind the added cost.
