Are you considering a winter holiday in Tenerife? Wondering which month to choose for your trip? Perhaps worried that the temperatures may not be high enough?
Fret no more, as today’s post will go over the winter conditions in Tenerife and why you really should give a winter break in the Canaries a go.
Tenerife weather in winter
Temperatures in winter
So, what’s the weather like in winter? Well, winter temperatures in early December reach 26 degrees Celsius, with an average of 21 degrees. January and February see a slight decline, down to an average of 19, but lows akin to 15 degrees Celsius happen from time to time too.
Sadly, these are also the months with the most rainfall on the island – but ‘most rainfall’ for Tenerife is still relatively tame.
A land of eternal spring
Beautiful views in Tenerife
With such weather all year round, you can do most of what you would usually do in Tenerife whenever you come by. What would that be?
You can go hiking, take in the wondrous natural spots all around, gather a whole archive worth of beautiful photos, visit the Teide National Park or the Rural de Anaga and stock up on the best views you’ll see.
Dolphins and whales in Tenerife
What to see in Tenerife in winter?
You can also defy winter even further and go on dolphin or whale watching cruises around Tenerife. The costs of these vary quite a bit depending on the boat standard you choose and how many passengers it’ll carry – the usual prices vary from €30 to €70.
An average cruise is around 2-4 hours long and we highly recommend you try it out at least once.
Less crowds in Tenerife
When can you avoid the tourist swarm?
Most tourists will naturally gravitate towards the typical holiday season, July and August. Perhaps you’ll still encounter quite a few in December, around the Christmas season, but the whole of the winter season will be much calmer than your high season.
January and February are especially safe and we’d recommend you fly at the end of January or at the very beginning of February for the lowest traffic if you’re dead tired of that too.
Cheap holidays in Tenerife
When are holidays in Tenerife cheapest?
Fewer tourists also means lower prices in Tenerife, and we mean significantly lower. Differences can sometimes reach as much as 50% in regards to accommodation, for instance. Flights and general services can also be much cheaper in winter.
The only potential downside is that some services may, resultably, close for the winter season and reopen closer to summer. Do make sure that the things you may want to see do stay open in winter if you can.
