When should you go to Albania? Weather in Albania for July, August and September

Most tourists want beautiful sunny weather, warm water and no wind for their holidays, as these are the conditions so rarely present for long at home. Will Albania provide you with all these aspects in summer? Which month should you choose for your trip to the Balkans? What is the weather like in Albania in July, August and September?

When to go to Albania?

Albania lato

Albania has a Mediterranean climate, which means it has a standard 4-season rotation. Autumn in the country is mild and rainy, though temperatures still remain quite high in october. It gets colder from November onwards. Winter in Albania is cold and wet, with December being the rainiest month. Snow does occur, though only in the mountains, the only area with minus temperatures. Spring slowly warms the ground up and summer is what we’ll talk about today.

What is the weather like in Albania in July?

Albania’s peak season begins in July. The air temperatures reach an average of 29 degrees Celsius during the day and 22 at night. The water is also pleasantly warm, around 24 degrees. July usually sees 28 days with no rain and with 15 hours of daylight. July also has the highest UV index, at 9. Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids, use strong sunscreen and cover up your head. It’s obviously the perfect month for visiting Albania’s beaches.

What is the weather like in Albania in August?

Just like in July, you can count on high temperatures in August. The lowest temperatures you can realistically see is about 18-22 degrees Celsius at night. On the other hand, you can commonly find temperatures going above 35 degrees, with the peak in 2023 being 38. Remember that these values refer to the temperature in the shade, so you’ll actually perceive it even more out in the sunlight.

If you love water sports and diving, the sea water is also perfect this month, at 25 degrees Celsius. Same as July, there are 28 days of no rain, though daylight lasts an hour less.

What is the weather like in Albania in September?

September already marks the beginning of jackets and coats for us at home, but certainly not in Albania. The average day temperatures sit at 26 degrees Celsius (though, in 2023, this was closer to 31 degrees). Nights tend to drop to around 17 degrees. As you can imagine, the waters also remain quite warm still, at 23 degrees. The only thing that reminds us that autumn is coming is the increase in rainfall, with an average of 7 days a month. Still, it’s a small price to pay and September does mark the beginning of the low season, meaning less crowds, less noise and more peace.

September is also a time of harvest in Albania. See what local delicacies you can try there! 🙂

So when should you go to Albania? It depends on what you’re looking for. If you like it really, really hot, then July and August are perfect for scorching yourself on the beach all day. September is also beautiful, with temperatures being a bit more bearable for an average mortal who would like to explore a bit more. You also get less tourists and a bit lower prices as a result. The trade-off here is that there’s more rain, so you may catch yourself in an unfortunate rainy week.
