Getting from Bari to Matera, or from Bari to anywhere for that matter, can be a bit anxiety-inducing with just how many trains depart from Bari. Additionally, you can’t even find all the info online, on websites like trenitalia. As such, we’ll also look at other options, not just trains.

Getting from Bari to Matera by car

Firstly, the most convenient option. Whether it’s hired or your own, the fastest route for you is the one via the SS96 road southwest towards Altamura and the SS99 road south. The whole drive will take you about an hour and you can find a car park at the train station.

What is the best way to get from Bari to Matera?

We’ve taken the route 3 times already and it obviously depends on your circumstances. If we knew all of you would have cars with you, obviously we’d say the car, as it’d also allow you to visit the surrounding towns in Puglia and Basilicata. Trains are quite frequent and comfortable, so we’d say it’s also a good option. If it’s easier for you to get to the airport in Bari or any other bus stop, though, then that’s also a perfectly valid option.

If you have motion sickness, the train will be the lesser evil. 🙂
